ActiveRain's Weltanschauung: Local Knowledge Leads to Success

ActiveRain's Weltanschuung: Local Knowledge Leads to Success

 local real estate knowledge rules

How quickly is this town growing? What is the median price of a 3-bedroom home? Have prices increased in the past five years? Is it a buyers' market? How do the schools rank? How is the commute to the big city?

Lynn B. Friedman has offered a blog jumpstart challenge that includes discussion of blogging platform ActiveRain's Weltanschauung.  What is Weltanschauung? Simply an organization's driving philosophy, it's world view. The ActiveRain founders put forth ten principles for its world view, and I have chosen to discuss principle #5:

"We believe that real estate professionals will thrive if they demonstrate their local market expertise. With ever greater access to listings, local knowledge is now the key differentiator."

What excites me about this principle is the word thrive.  We won't just get along in our businesses, we will thrive if we express our knowledge of our market.  I can't agree more.

In the ten years that I have been a real estate agent, I have seen the astronomical rise of the Internet as buyers and sellers research property information that was once the domain of real estate pros. A property's history is now available for all to see, design trends are in front of us daily, and information is more transparent than ever.

Real estate remains local, and this requires us to act as the eyes on the ground for our clients. A state-wide report on the real estate market does not necessarily relate to specific towns. For example, in Massachusetts, statistics on Boston will vary greatly from those in Worcester and Springfield. Our clients need us to be able to analyze local market trends so they can make educated decisions about buying and selling real estate.

This key principle, holding the golden nugget of local knowledge, has become what I believe is our most valuable asset.

I really like this and soooo agree with you. The Internet has lots of information but not all, and it's not all useful or accurate. Consumer need our help and expertise to sort through it all and give them the information that they need most!

Have a great weekend!
