A Day in the Life of a Massachusetts Real Estate Agent

What does a Massachusetts real estate agent do all day? In this rare expose, I open my typical schedule to show you the glamorous lifestyle and intriguing engagements that we agents enjoy on a daily basis. 

4 AM

It's up and at 'em. Breakfast #1 and then out the door for a workout. No one wants to look at homes this time of day, so the early hours of the day are all mine.

8 AM

After a shower, it's breakfast #2 (I like to eat). Then a quick look at what is new on the MLS. Maybe a new property has come on the market that fits a certain buyer. Perhaps some competition for one of my listings. Then check and respond to emails that came in last night while I was in slumberland.

9 AM

Meet my accountability partner. I have a friend with whom I meet once per week to spend a marketing Hour of Power.  We challenge one another to work more effectively and overcome obstacles. 

10 AM

I'm on the road to a listing appointment. Once the paperwork is complete, I take a full battery of photos of the property, often 150 or more. With the blue sky and the sun on the house at this hour, the main listing photo will be outstanding.

12 Noon

Lunch, often with a client or friend, occasionally with a local celebrity (that would be one of the real estate attorneys in town).

1 PM

In the office to respond to calls, emails, texts, direct messages, and tweets that came in during lunch time.  Troubleshoot any problems that arose. Move transactions forward. Communicate.

3 PM

Build the listing from earlier today. Post it in MLS. Build the property web site for that home. Blast a Just Listed announcement to agents who have buyers looking for this type of home. Post the listing in my blog. Post the listing on social media. Schedule an open house. Market market market.

5 PM

Cocktail hour? Not for me. I have a referral to make, appointments to make, dinner to make. Or maybe a networking meeting to make.

6 PM

I get to eat again!

7 PM 

One last sit-down to get online and catch up on emails and messages before shutting down for the day. Write a blog post, catch up with referral partners, and plan tomorrow.

What I'm finding from reading all the contest posts is that most of us start the day very early and we work long hours!
