August 2011:  Mid-summer and the picking is easy, especially if you visit Ragged Hill Orchard  in West Brookfield, MA.  Located atop a country hill, Ragged Hill Orchard provides a wonderful place to escape and wander the hills.  This time of year, the blueberries are ripe and ready, and the red raspberries are sweet and at peak.

On my recent visit to Ragged Hill, we filled buckets of plump berries.  The orchard owners provide buckets with roped handles for convenience, and also quart and pint containers for taking your fruit home.  Or, you can measure your harvest and transfer to your own containers.

When I was there, the blueberries were $4 per quart, and the raspberries were $4 per pint.  Excellent prices for fresh-picked fruit and a morning of fresh, outdoor exploration.

In the fall, Ragged Hill Orchard offers numerous varieties of apples for picking, and I fully intend to come back to this lovely orchard and fill a basket with apples.

That would be nice to be able to pick your own blueberries. When I get them at the grocery store, you always find some that are too ripe.

Hi Kathryn - Isn't this a great part of the country to live in?

What a great thing to do with the entire family! And, to take home fresh fruit at a good price, you can't beat it!

Yum, I would love to be able to do that; and I love the name Ragged Hill Orchard. Your new picture is great, Kathryn.
