Down and Dirty at Hyland Orchards - Sturbridge MA
June 11, 2011: Today was the Socks for Siberia Festival at Hyland Orchards. This year I participated in the "Rock Your Socks Off" Trail Run through the orchards, and what a blast. This was a trail race up and down the rows of apple trees and into the woods surrounding the orchards. Having had rain all morning, the trail was slippery, squishy, and muddy. We ran up slopes, through rocky ruts, and over logs. I finished the race covered in mud from the knees down, finding cover under the pavilion before the clouds opened up a downpour of hard rain.
Live musicians were on hand, and as we ran we could hear clips of mountain music drifting through the orchards. Those present were of hardy stock, having braved the rain to join in the festivities.
It was a great time, and I can't wait for next year.
