Winter Tree Scavenger Hunt in Sturbridge, MA

Winter Tree Scavenger Hunt in Sturbridge, MA

Sturbridge, MA:  Get outdoors for a fantastic holiday event.  The Conservation Commission of the town of Sturbridge is hosting a Winter Tree Scavenger Hunt through the month of December 2010.  The commission has decorated 14 trees that are along conservation trails.  Participants are required to find all 14 trees and have a photo taken of themselves beside each tree.  Then, the photos must be emailed to the Conservation Commission prior to New Year's Day, at sturbridgetreehunt@hotmail.com

What a fun holiday activity.  Take a hike, search for Christmas trees, and enter to win a prize.  All participants will be entered into a drawing to win a gift certificate tree (the grand prize).

In addition to the scavenger hunt, the Conservation Commission will also host a Winter Forest Walk and Talk on Saturday, December 18, from 10 am to 2 pm.  This will be a great opportunity to learn more about the scavenger hunt as well as land management practice on some of the conservation land sites in Sturbridge.  The featured speaker is Joe Kowalski, who will discuss the ways in which trees function in winter.

The meeting point for the Winter Forest Walk and Talk is the kiosk at the parking lot for the Leadmine Conservation Land on Leadmine Road.  Attendees are urged to wear brightly colored clothing, as hunting season is in full force.

For more information about the Winter Tree Scavenger Hunt or the Winter Forest Walk and Talk, contact the Sturbridge Conservation Commission at (508) 347-2506.
