Free Software for Taking Inventory of Your Home
Whether you are buying, selling, or renting your home, it is always a good idea to keep stock of your belongings. In the event of a theft, accident, or damage, you will need to supply your insurance company with a list of your valuable items in order to make a claim.
With that in mind, you may be happy to hear about a free software program that helps you easily inventory your belongings. It is called What You Own, and you can download it at www.whatyouown.org
I learned about this software from the National Association of REALTORs magazine, September 2010 edition.
The What You Own software installation is quite easy, and it takes about 3 minutes. Once installed, you simply go in and add your rooms. Then, for each room, you can add your valuable items. Imagine how easy a task this will be if you install the program on a laptop. Take your laptop from room to room, and soon you'll have inventoried your entire house.
You can also add photos and documents such as receipts to each item's record. That way, you'll be able to provide your insurance company with a complete picture of any item that needs to be replaced.
Why not give What You Own a try? It will streamline your inventory-taking, and the price is certainly right.
