Berkshire Hike: Mt. Greylock
Wildflowers on the Joe's Nose Trail - Mt. Greylock
Today I accompanied my son's Boy Scouts troop on a hike to Mt. Greylock in the Berkshire Mountains of Massachusetts. Our hike started at the head of Joe's Nose trail, which was a gorgeous but aggressive 1-mile ascent to the Appalachian Trail. Once we hooked onto the AT, it was only another 3 miles up to the summit.

At the top of Mt. Greylock are spectacular views in every direction. We climbed the tower at the top to get the best 360 views. We were at the top of the world!
Some members of our group continued on in order to complete a 10-mile hike. Others (myself included) finished with a brisk additional one mile so that some of the scouts could log in a full 5 miles for the day.
It was a perfect day for a hike. The humidity was low, the sky was clear, the air was crisp. What a great day to spend out of the indoors.
Should you decide to attempt a hike up Mt. Greylock, be sure to stop at the Visitor's Center before stepping onto any trail head. The staff at the Visitor's Center can help you plan a hike of the distance and challenge level that you desire.
