Ah, that New Home Smell

new construction

Earlier today, I visited the site where one of my clients is having a new home built.  The foundation is in, the framing is done, the siding is on, and the plastering was under way.  As I entered the house, my first thought was how wonderfully the construction was moving along.

My second thought was, "Ah - that new home smell!"

Most folks have an opportunity to know of the new car smell, but very few actually experience the new home smell.  It's a mix of the scents of primarily lumber with top notes of plaster, concrete, plywood, and paint.   And it is truly wonderful.

Ah - that new home smell!

My wife and I have also been blessed with the opportunity to experience that "new home smell." I have a confession...I keep one room closed at all times (no kids yet) and every once in a while I sneak in there just to take deep breaths of the NEWNESS of it.  I can still smell a slight lumber/plaster mix in the air and I LOVE IT!!!!  Have a great day Kathryn.

It is so exciting to see, and smell, your new home being built.  Your description sounds like a great commercial :)

I love that smell!  Can't wait to smell it again in my own new home someday...it's almost time for a bigger one!
