Events in Stubridge, MA - Weekend of Sept 26 and 27, 2009

Events in Stubridge, MA - Weekend of Sept 26 and 27, 2009

Sturbridge truly comes to life in the fall.  This town thrives on festivals, and you can feel a surge of energy throughout the town as the apple-crisp weather draws people out to enjoy the public spaces.  Here is a sampling of events happening in Sturbridge this weekend:

Natural Living Expo - Sat and Sun 9/26 & 9/27:

Natural living expo

A holistic event geared toward the entire family.  Over 120 exhibitors offer the holistic & green products & services. Massage, healing techniques, yoga, green friendly products and fair trade shopping.  Some of the many interesting topics include the study of chakras, kung fu demo, fitness hooping, energy psychology, and a drumming circle. The expo also features an EcoDiscovery Trial for kids. This event is all about mind, body, and spirit. Check the web site for the full schedule.

Agricultural Exhibition at Old Sturbridge Village - Sat and Sun 9/26 & 9/27:  An agricultural fair, 1830's style.  Residents submit their entries for awards in butter, cheese, preserves, knitted goods, strawbraid, quilts, lace,  and much more. There will also be plowing matches and cider pressing. Lots of good old fashioned fun.

Bethlehem Artisans' Festival - Sat 9/26:  Held on the town common, this juried event is a fundraiser.  Local crafters and artisans will display and sell their wares.

Scarecrow Contest Setup - all weekend: Across from the artisans' festival, contestans in the annual Scarecrow Contest have begun to set up their displays.  Come and see these traffic-stopping creations in process.

Massachusetts Outdoor Exposition - Sun. Sept 27:  Fondly known as "The Big MOE," this exposition takes place at Hamilton Rod and Gun Club.  Geared toward the outdoors lover, the Big MOE provides an opportunity to experiment with archery, fishing, shooting, rock climbinb, mountain biking, and many other sporty activities.  Boy Scout Troop 161 will be on hand to assist.  (Note some of the dates on their web site are incorrect.  The Big MOE is on 9/27. Parking with shuttles at Old Sturbridge Village and Burgess Elementary School.)

Star Co-op Farmer's Market/Artisan Event - Sun. 9/27:

Star co-op

Farmers and artisans ply their wares at this monthly event by Star Co-op TV.  Fresh baked goods, beeswax cream, fruits and vegetables, flowers and plants, bison meat - these are just some of the offerings from past market events.  Stop in and see what's happening, and join the co-op to participate in their group shopping rates.
