Sturbridge, MA - Mandatory Water Ban July 2010
You have most likely seen the signs around town. Due to the lack of rainfall in recent weeks, the town has issued a mandatory water ban for non-essential use of water. Basically, this means no watering of lawns, gardens, washing of cars and so forth, between the hours of 9 AM to 5 PM.
Why this timeframe? Quite simply, on hot dry days such as these, you can lose a good 50% of the water you may try to give to your lawn due to evaporation. Wait until the evening and early morning hours, when the sun has less opportunity to dry up the water before it sinks into the ground.
While the ban is in effect, you may water your lawn once a week during the hours outside of 9 AM to 5 PM. You can get more information from the town at (508) 347-2513.
Stay cool, and let's hope for a couple of good rain showers.
