July 4th Weekend in Sturbridge Massachusetts
Fourth of July weekend in Sturbridge, Massachusetts is slated to be full of fun and festivities.
If you are in town on Friday, July 2, stop in at Hyland Orchard/Pioneer Brewing to enjoy a cool brew and watch the Hot Dog Eating Contest at 5:30 pm.
On Saturday and Sunday, two big events will keep you busy: the Feast and Fire on July 3rd, and Independence Day at Old Sturbridge Village on July 4th.
SATURDAY JULY 3: Sturbridge Feast and Fire
The second annual Feast and Fire kicks off with a parade at 2 pm. Bag pipers will lead numerous local groups from the Sturbridge Host Hotel on Route 20, to the Sturbridge Town Common on Route 131.
Following the parade, you can feast on the offerings at the Grand Picnic Buffet. Hosted by local restaurants, the proceeds from this classic picnic buffet will benefit area non-profit organizations. Adults $10; Children $5; Seniors $8.
Once your belly is happy, you will find local talent on hand to amuse you. Musicians, dancers, actors, and others will be providing entertainment throughout the day.
For more participatory activities, the Feast and Fire will also hold games and relay races, tethered hot air balloon rides, a pie judging contest, a dance-off and many other opportunities for old-fashioned fun.
The Feast and Fire festivities culminate in a bonfire behind the Publick House (Route 131). Built by local Boy Scouts, the fire will be a mesmerizing ending to a busy day of fun. A special firewalk demonstration will bring the day to a close.
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and bug repellent, and plan to stay the day at the Sturbridge Feast and Fire.
