Start the Day with the Steel Deck Chamber of Torture
Fitton Football Field
This morning, I arose at 5 am to drive to Fitton Field at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. I had been looking for some new athletic activities to challenge myself, and I heard that a group of people have been meeting to run stadiums there.
Run stadiums. The verb "run" alone is daunting when you are facing dozens of aluminum steps. The east sections of the stadium contain 46 steps. The smaller sections contain 20 to 26 steps. While others ran up the stadium, I took a slow but consistent crawling pace.
Within a half hour, I had conquered the steel deck chamber of torture, and the sun had started to rise on Worcester. My legs shook, and I know the muscles will be sore tomorrow. But starting the day with a challenge like this, I felt that whatever else the day brought, I would most certainly be able to handle. If I was able to stay awake, that is.
Can't wait to go back again!
